Who is Pediatric Hematologist - Oncologist Prof. Dr. Atila Tanyeli?

Prof. Dr. Atila Tanyeli graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1978. After his undergraduate education, he completed his specialty training in Pediatrics at Çukurova University in 1983 and then completed his minor specialties in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and became a professor. During this period, his studies and the projects he led in the fields of pediatric oncology and hematology have made him a nationally and internationally respected scientist.

Prof. Dr. Atila Tanyeli has broken many important grounds in the field of pediatric hematology and oncology in Turkey. He established Turkey’s second Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) center at Çukurova University, where he performed Turkey’s first autologous bone marrow transplantation. He continued these achievements by performing the first cord blood transplant in Turkey in 1996. These pioneering studies raised the standards in the field of pediatric oncology and hematology in Turkey and enabled the adoption of new treatment methods.

Prof. Dr. Atila Tanyeli, who has held many administrative positions in his academic career, served as the Head of the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Çukurova University for many years and also held critical administrative positions such as Vice Rector. In these positions, he made significant contributions to the academic and administrative structure of the university and stood out with his management skills.

Prof. Dr. Atila Tanyeli is a well-known name in international academic circles. He worked as an observer on stem cell transplantation in Cambridge and London, thus increasing his knowledge in the international arena. In 2014, he established the pediatric and adult BMT centers at Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital and since 2016, he established the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and BMT Center at Şişli Memorial Hospital and continued his work here. Prof. Dr. Atila Tanyeli, who has performed over 150 successful bone marrow transplant operations, is a pioneer in his field with his academic studies as well as his clinical achievements.

His research focuses on innovative treatment methods such as stem cell transplantation and mesenchymal stem cell therapy. The numerous articles he has published in these fields have made significant contributions to the pediatric oncology literature. In addition, his experience in developing large-scale hospital projects has led to the establishment of many important healthcare complexes in Turkey.
